To make this very clear: the way that we will do that is through a process essentially of letting go, but not like a lot of other teachings and methods focus on letting go, where they are really trying to get rid of the feeling, to block it or to manipulate it. What I am suggesting is the following:
- When your mind gets murky, when you really get caught up in your thoughts and feelings …. you welcome that. Explore this – try and see what happens.
- You let it run its course, meaning you don’t judge it, you don’t try to suppress it, you don’t try to push it away and you don’t try to escape it.
- In fact, you let go and surrender all efforts to modify it in any way.
The oil lamp
Another way of explaining this is to use an oil lamp as metaphor. As soon as you light the oil lamp it’s going to burn whatever amount of oil is in that lamp. So when you let you feelings burn (so to speak), when you let them process through you and you don’t try to modify it or you don’t try to manipulate the fire that is burning the oil, the lamp will burn until the oil is burnt out. Likewise, in this case letting the mud settle without manipulating or changing it, will reveal that your innate clarity, your innate wellbeing which has always been present. It’s the nature of the water; it’s the nature of your mind to be at peace – to be clear. And that becomes obvious when the mud settles, when you allow your thoughts and feelings to run through you. To let them run their course and not avoid it anymore.
And here is the other good news: when you surrender something of a lower order, by that I mean things like fear, guilt, shame, doubt etc, it automatically gets replaced by something of a higher order – things like clarity, confidence, courage, love peace etc. It is our innate clarity that’s like parting clouds and suddenly the sun that was always shining can come through. And what that means is that essentially you are always only one thought or one feeling away from happiness, freedom and peace.
So in essence what I have found in over a decade of working with people from all walks of life and all kinds of situations and all kind of traumas and disturbances is the fact that the more you surrender (meaning: the more you stop trying to change, fix or get rid of) the more you experience ever-increasing happiness, freedom and joy in the moment. You start finding that this is your natural state.
What I have seen also is that the more you surrender, the more things like miracles start to happen in and through your life! As you make space within, a greater intelligence, a higher power, starts moving in and through your life. We can also call it your innate wisdom giving you insight and revelation as to how to navigate your life, how to navigate the challenges that are taking place in your life.
